The Parties
Born into a family of trappers who worshipped Amun Tur, young Carmac witnessed the mysterious cruelty of the natural world as it maintains a balanced order. When Chaos encroached on the outskirts of Filthton, Carmac knew he had to take up the sword to counter its spread.
Being part of that unsuccessful party, Carmac thought his time was done having been struck in the head and knocked unconscious, only to be rescued by another band of Filthtonians.
Due to the injury, he acted rather brashly in his second chance at a rescue attempt and became possessed by a Chaos menhir. Unknown to his allies (due to poor lighting, dirt, and bloodstains), this possession clouded his eyes to a murky grey and shocked his hair white.
Carmac regained his senses, helped rescue what survivors were left of Filthtonian, but with his new appearance hides his shadowed eyes under cover of his helmet. The touch of Chaos has also pushed him to further embrace the teachings of his parents…revere for Amun Tur the god of Mysteries. He has found solace in these beliefs and has committed his sword arm and prayers to maintaining the balance needed for order.
- Stigg Tokissen – Barbarian
Stigg is the youngest boy of Toki Vrangisen and Fjotra Eyvindardóttir. He grew up in hard labor of shabby pig farm in eastern Thuland. His father was know in the region as an idiot, due to the fact that he never spoke and could never seemed to be able to earn so much as a copper coin. His grandfather was revered man in the service a prominent Jarl of Brymstone until he was driven out for accusations of theft. Stigg’s mother was a woman who lamented daily of their earthly state.
They say his mother is the reason his father never came back from the woods one day; though some say he was killed by bandits or wolves. Shortly thereafter, his brother, Bjorn, hired himself out to a group of Vikings in Brymstone. Taking up a sword (a weapon of “civilization”) he left his father’s axe with Stigg to defend the homestead. Bjorn never returned from his first raid.
When Stigg was 8, his mother died. Some say she died of grief, after losing her husband and older son; some say she died of a combination of fruitless hard labor and starvation. The meager land was immediately seized by a neighboring farmer, promising to “look after the orphan.” After 2 years of fruitless slave labor on the farm, Stigg was sold to a Jarl in Brymstone by the “charitable” neighbor.
While only 10, Stigg’s large stature, hardy constitution, and ability to take orders, earned him the position of armor bearer of his new lord. He would spend the next 4 years at sea, raiding coastal villages, and learning the skills of a profitable Viking.
At 14, he was left for dead after a distasterous failed raid in Glissom. He was discovered by a priest of the True Faith, Father Eno. During the several months of recovery, Stigg was tutored in the Faith, and ordained as a “Deacon-in-training”. They then traveled together back down to the mission in Ereworn, trying to convert souls through acts of kindness on the way. In spite of Stigg’s strength and violent past, Father Eno worked on honing his Skaldic skills to sing and to sermonize.
Following 2 years of peaceful existence, Stigg sat by the bedside as Father Eno died of sickness contracted from one of his many pilgrimages into strange lands. Being considered too simple, and having too much barbarian blood in him, the remaining priests deemed Stigg unsuitable for clerical service. Instead they decided his immense size and low intelligence were perfect qualifications as a foot soldier for the Crusade.
After being conscripted into military service, he seemed to be a natural soldier. Obeying without question, Stigg seemed to have no fear of death on the battle field; and at times, in the heat of battle, would be taken over by his berserker blood, and years of pent up rage. These skills have moved him into the elite units, and the most dangerous missions.
- Count Frederick de Brock – Knight turned Warlock
Frederick’s younger brother William took over the family land and finances in Ereworn by killing his parents and tried to kill him as well but friends loyal to his father caught wind of the attack and smuggled him out before he could be caught and killed.
Freederick got off the island and did mercenary work with traveling caravans until he found his way into the Crusades. He is bidding his time until he can assemble an army of men to avenge his parents and take back his rightful home.
- Sir Thurston – Knight
In Ereworn, there is a small village called Hasten. Upon coming of age there, several men made comments about Thurston’s lineage which required rebuttal. In besting a man of pride, he found himself later that night pressed into service as an oarsman in the cold northern seas. Upon his escape during a naval engagement with a merchant convoy, he saved his own skin by swearing a life oath to a Selentine; Lord Uthbert. He has been a good man, not taking great advantage of Thurston’s loyalty to an extreme. However, when a call came to reinforce the Prince’s expedition to the far reaches, his men were sent to fill the requirement. On a recent night in a steamy port, there was a commotion in the inn where Uthbert was hosteled. Four oathmen, including Thurston, found only his mail, weapons and coin in the bedchamber. A small streak of blood splattered toward the unshuttered window and out into the inky darkness. It has a been a long time not to have heard from Lord Uthbert one way or another. Until Thurston can find his priest and keeper of the instructions, he cannot learn what is to happen to his oath upon his going missing or possible death. In the interim, Thurston will have to fulfill his last command and reinforce the Prince’s requests until a determination can be made. However, Thurston has no oath to the Prince and his patience is wearing thin.
